Who am I? A simple yet complex and profound question that we should take time to reflect on. We invite you to spend some time to reflect on this concept, your sense of being. Who do I want to be in the future? How is my ideal person: values, principles, believes, habits, lifestyle, actions, dressing, health, etc. Envision the type of person you would like to be and start acting as if today.
Journalling clarifies the mind. Practice it everyday until it becomes a habit. The habit of writing things down helps to download on paper all the things that goes around the mind: thoughts, feelings, emotions, believes, activities amongst others. Make space in the mind, make it go around your day with a lighter mind. You can write down how you are feelings, your emotions, the things you did or plan to do. Things that are important to you. Identify thoughts, emotions or even pattern are can repeat that have meaning to you.
1 – Imagine your “ideal self” and define achievable goals which reinforce your self value and knowledge.
Reflect on where you have started and the things you achieve every day. Value them. Dedicate a few minutes to emphasise regularly, appreciate and value those “little wins”. Set personal goals.
The self-discovery process begins by accepting who you are right now, always with compassion, while you work towards improving yourself on the areas you prefer.
2. Ask yourself introspective questions and answer them with honesty.
Ask questions that explore your interest, fears, ambitions, insecurities. You have to set aside some time to consider such questions slowing down your pace and think on areas of your life that are unnoticed in the fast modern life. By doing such exercise you understand yourself better. Learn skills to overcome challenges and connect to the things that make you happy.
3 – Concentrate on the things that give you energy and meditate on what drains you.
Make a list of different activities you do and observe the feeling while performing them and see what you are feeling about them. See how you feel after doing this activity, feeling energised or more tired than before? Going through this exercise it is possible that set your priorities and have a more clearer idea of which tasks have positive impact and on the contrary, those you should be dropping.
4 – Make progress towards the things aligned with your passion and interests.
What do these experience tell you about yourself? Why do they make you feel energised? Do they satisfy some specific need or values in the market? This approach brings light to identify and expand your motivations and what you enjoy doing, and perhaps even discovering some talents or skills unnoticed before, gaining a deeper and clearer picture of your values and needs.
5 – Explore your values
Reflect on the most important values that guide your life and write them down. Think on the idea of why those values are important in your life. Where are coming from? Are they good for me? Which experiences or events have motivated and feed such values. Think and meditate if your actions are aligned with these values giving direction and purpose to your desired life.
6 – Be aware when the inner negative voice and self doubt comes up.
The moment you recognise the inner negative voice or self-doubt you are present again. To recognise it is to be present again. Be aware, acknowledge and accept the feeling until it loses power and it dissolves. Embrace the inner negative voice or self-doubt to make it weaker. Once you are calm, you are in control again of the situation. Just be aware of “the little voice” and come back to the present moment again.
7 – Pen & Paper everyday.
Remember, beginning the journey to your inner self is not an easy or simple process, however, it is fundamental to know and understand ourselves deeper and to expand as a person. Discover and bring light to aspects of your personalities and character unnoticed before: paying attention to your values, being more conscious about the actions you are taking towards the person you want to become and connect more regularly with the emotions that take you closer to your wellbeing. This process has to be done from a place of total acceptance and honesty with your inner self.
