!["Labels" if not examined have the power to prevent us from changing and evolving in life.](https://youtomic.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/text_labels_prevent_change.jpg)
“That is the way I am”, that can be anything from a job position and social roles to personal traits or past experiences. Without even thinking, we mentally define ourselves in certain ways: unhappy, incompetent, shy, you name it – most of these labels have negative connotations. Subconscious association with such “labels”, or over-identifying ourselves with some “characteristic, roles or identities” leave us in “in the victim seat”, powerless and avoiding social situations missing out on opportunities for personal growth.
Of course, such labels restrict and limit our capacity of movement for growth and transformation. Identifying too closely with such labels have a tremendous negative impact to the point that we end up seeing them as “rigid ideas or believes”, thus, such limitations define us as absolute. Subconscious attachment to these labels without examining or questioning them end up settling boundaries in several directions limiting the potential to learn, improve, explore new possibilities or even trying new things out of the comfort zone. Labels prevent change from positive transformation.
True change requires us to examine and question our own ideas, believes, values, so that we can seek change and adapt in alignment to who we now are and not be run by some old patterns from the past. Hold in mind what personality, trait or character you would like to develop. It is essential to challenge our assumptions, remain flexible and let go of those rigid and fixed labels which prevent us from evolving and experience new possibilities.
As once Bruce Lee wisely said “be water my friend”, a more fluid and open-minded approach will dissolve some of our current constraints, expanding the horizons of our mind and embracing an idea of prosperity and abundance. Such open attitude towards change functions along with the ever-expanding universe – always growing – shaping our character and personality leading to an exciting journey of becoming “a flourished self”.
Do I frequently examine and challenge my “labels”?
How can I make a subconscious label conscious and improve it?
What “labels” should I improve to be move closer to who I would like to become?
May you become aware of your “shadow”, improve and become all you can be.
