Throughout history until the recent past, life and progress occurred at a much lower pace allowing stability and stagnation taking place for extended period of time, much longer than in the recent years. Technology has increasingly been shaping our lives in the recent decades with an unprecedented pace in the last 20 years. Such is the speed of the advancements of technology that leave us sometimes stranded not knowing how to react to it. A shift in consciousness is needed.
Life in the past as a whole moved a much slower speed where knowledge, progress and people skills lasted years even decades before another great breakthrough. In the history things remained stable and predictable for extended periods hence that those could have been comfortable times for years to come. Seen from the present perspective, it looks as if the past was happening in slow-motion tape where changes occurred more distant in between having more time to think before the next move.
“The past was predictable for long periods; the present and future are constantly unpredictable”.
However, the present landscape is a dynamic world contrasting dramatically with the more static, slow-pace past, driving an imperative sense of constant development and transformation to be competitive in such a fast-moving world. In addition, for what we have seen in the recent years and especially for what is coming in the future, the rapid advancement of technology and ever-growing external pressure force businesses and people to be in continuous process of learning and updating ideas, concepts, markets, amongst several others.
Challenge yourself before life challenges you.
Considering the current fast changing world that live in, we now face the notion – due to several researches on the topic – that people, ideas and business impact last on average of eighteen months. This fact shows the tough reality external pressure is also increasing at the same rate of technology. Thus the current trends induce people to continuos learning of new skills, make necessary improvements and innovate in order to remain relevant and competitive.
In conclusion, the contrasting passing of time shows that life speeded in the recent decades comparing the slow past against the dynamic present. The current reality demands a new mindset when approaching life as a whole where change seems to be the new and only certainty. The new perspective requires focus on continuous learning, flexibility to change from old concepts to new ideas, and grow to stay relevant and thrive in this ever-changing present.
Am I flexible enough to also change along with times?
Am I adapting to modern demands?
What skills or field can I learn to be competitive and thrive as a human being?
May you reflect on the present times, adapt and evolve to the rapid changing environment.
