When having in mind that big, great idea in our minds it is important to think big, see “the big picture” and imagine your dream or idea as big as possible, reaching far and wide. However, when thinking of making progress it is essential to take “the big picture” and zoom in in details and in this case, it is key to “think small”.
Every dream or idea is born first in our minds, “somewhere up there”, not yet tangible. As we like the idea, we tend to give attention and think again, gaining more attention until it reaches a point where you think: “okay, I am going to do something about it”. At that point, we start to think of bringing the idea “down to earth”. Here, it is fundamentally important to think, imagine, visualise your dream big. You start planning big, giving fuel to your idea to grow for the long-term vision.
Once the idea is on paper, down to earth, it is time to take action, slowly, step by step. Contrary to the “thinking big” for planning, when it comes to take action and make progress is vital to “think small”, with focused attention on one step at a time, confident to perform that step properly and go for the next one, and the next and the next. At this point, we do not get lost in the “big picture” but rather place our full attention at the one task at hand. The ultimate idea of “thinking small” is incremental, expanding slowly but steadily.
Meanwhile, as it is the case in any project and process is essentially important to remain flexible, adjusting and adapting to the improvements needed to make progress. While “thinking big” sparks the motivation we need to be aligned with our ultimate goals, the power of “thinking small” resides in celebrating small victories and adjusting as we progress and grow.
Understanding “the big and the small thinking” and when to switch between them is essential to keep going, while incorporating new insights, knowledge and reflecting on progress helps refine the vision into the future. Tiny actions fuels positive energy towards building something greater, while the long-term vision serves as a lighthouse guiding the direction we aim to.
Do I think big so that my life calling can grow as far and wide as possible?
What actions can I take today to head me closer to my ultimate dream?
Can I measure my tiny actions and improvements towards my greater dream?
May your “think big and think small” serve you on your path to achieve your personal success.
Youtomic.
